Children are special and are treated with special consideration at Baptist Health Floyd. When your little one needs surgical care, Baptist Health Floyd is here to make sure your child is treated with expert medicine and exceptional care. We have the tools and expert staff of physicians and nurses to help your child get better as quickly as possible.
Our goal is to help decrease anxiety and make your child’s hospital stay a positive experience. Knowing what to expect the day of surgery can help you stay focused and have a better understanding of the process. We suggest that a parent or caregiver download this helpful Day of Surgery Information Sheet.
When coming to the hospital to register, please bring your child to the main registration area in the front lobby. Be sure to have your insurance card, diaper bag, bottle, pacifier and a special toy or comfort item such as a blanket or stuffed animal.
We also have several tools that can be used to help alleviate some of the anxiety of your child’s hospital stay:
- Buddy dolls are given to children between the ages of 2 and 10 and are used as a teaching aid to help clear up misconceptions about medical tests, surgery or other procedures. The dolls can be named and have bandages added to them as well.
- Treasure boxes of toys provide a welcome distraction during your child’s stay.
- A special coloring book can help reduce the fear of the unknown by explaining surgery and anesthesia in kid-friendly terms. Click here to download and print the book ahead of your visit! Pediatric Surgery Coloring Book.
