Going from a size 32 to a size 14 was one positive result that Debbie Meyer, RN, achieved after going on the HMR program. Even more important, however, were the benefits to her health.
As Meyer explained, “I had been overweight most of my life, but it had become worse in the past few years. I developed Type 2 diabetes and had to go on oral medication. I had to take cholesterol medication. I also had hypertension. There were other problems, too. My joints and legs ached most of the time, and I got short of breath easily. I had tried just about everything, with little success,” she said. “And gastric bypass just wasn’t for me. So, when I heard about the HMR program at Baptist Health Floyd I decided to give the free orientation a try. I also asked my doctor about it. After she studied the program, she told me it was the only one she would approve of for me.”
Debbie joined the HMR program in January 2006 and followed the Decision-Free Low Calorie Diet with Medical Supervision. To date she has lost more than 175 pounds and is keeping it off in the maintenance program. What has that weight loss meant to her health? “I no longer need any diabetes or cholesterol medicine, and my blood pressure medication has been cut in half,” she said. “I don’t have any more joint or leg pain or shortness of breath. The HMR program has made a remarkable difference in my life!”
